AMONIC’s Craftsmanship Journey: Merging Tradition & Innovation

To enhance the integration of design and manufacturing while refining product craftsmanship, AMONIC’s design team conducted its monthly on-site learning visit to a partner factory. This session focused on two core techniques—hand carving and traditional lacquer artistry—aiming to strengthen the team’s expertise in precision craftsmanship and drive continuous product quality improvements.

During the visit, team members first explored the wood processing workshop, observing key steps such as raw wood cutting and mortise-and-tenon assembly. A highlight was the “4:3 Proportional Carving Method,” which balances classical aesthetics and modern functionality through a precise interplay of sculpted lines and negative space. Senior artisans demonstrated bas-relief and openwork carving, while team members actively participated, engaging in in-depth discussions on challenges such as carving pressure control and grain direction.

The visit continued in the lacquer workshop, where the team gained systematic insights into raw lacquer preparation, multi-layer coating techniques, and natural drying processes. The technical director provided a detailed explanation of the “Three-Color Gradient Lacquer Technique,” which enhances surface texture and depth by precisely controlling lacquer thickness and drying time. Collaborating closely with the factory’s technical team, AMONIC designers explored ways to integrate traditional craftsmanship into contemporary design, offering valuable optimization suggestions.

This hands-on experience not only deepened the team’s appreciation for artisanal techniques but also fostered cross-departmental collaboration. AMONIC remains committed to conducting regular practical learning sessions, adopting a “theory + practice” approach to nurture talent and develop furniture products that embody both cultural heritage and premium quality for consumers.

I’ve been following Amonic’s AI material training progress for a while now, and this article really shows how far you’ve come. The concept of “what you see is what you get” is something we’ve been hoping for in digital furniture presentation — and you’ve nailed it. Looking forward to applying this in my next collection preview! 🙂
